Drinking around 3 Litres of water a day is a great way to help you rid yourself of excess body fat, but did you know that the water that comes out of the taps in your house could be doing you more harm than good and actually making you fat. That’s hard to believe isn’t it?

It is also been proven to be detrimental to your health which you can see below. The use of fluoride in water began in the UK about 50 years ago when tests showed that fluoride could be good for teeth, however this was in minuscule amounts and was true only if the fluoride is from a natural source such as calcium fluoride. The fluoride that is added to our drinking water is actually chemically processed and comes from sodium fluoride which is pretty toxic.

Fluoride, both natural and industrial, which is vitally important for people to understand, especially considering the ever increasing weight problems and obesity in this country,was also used for a long time in Europe as a sedative to keep prisoners quiet. According to the Natural Health and Longevity Resource Center in the United States there are also ten major health dangers from drinking fluoride that have been proven by scientific research (pay particular attention to number 6):

Fluoride exposure disrupts the synthesis of collagen and leads to the breakdown of collagen in bone, tendon, muscle, skin, cartilage, lungs, kidney and trachea.

Fluoride stimulates granule formation and oxygen consumption in white blood cells, but inhibits these processes when the white blood cell is challenged by a foreign agent in the blood.

Fluoride lowers your energy reserves and the ability of your white blood cells to properly destroy foreign agents by the process of phagocytosis. As little as 0.2 ppm fluoride stimulates superoxide production in resting white blood cells, virtually abolishing phagocytosis. Even micro-molar amounts of fluoride, below 1 ppm, may seriously depress the ability of white blood cells to destroy pathogenic agents.Fluoride confuses the immune system and causes it to attack the body’s own tissues, and increases the tumor growth rate in cancer prone individuals.

Fluoride inhibits antibody formation in the blood.Fluoride depresses thyroid activity and slows down your metabolism, thereby making you fatter

Fluorides have a disruptive effect on various tissues in the body.Fluoride promotes development of bone cancer.Fluorides cause premature ageing of the human body.

Fluoride ingestion from mouth wash and toothpaste in children is also extremely hazardous to biological development, life span, general health and well-being.

Lets take a look at number 6 in more detail which is related to fat loss and weight management. Without proper functioning of the thyroid, your metabolism will slow down, and you will have less energy. This will also mean it becomes more difficult for you to burn calories, which will be stored as fat instead of being used as energy. Since fluoride is hard for your body to remove, as you continue to ingest it, the increase in your system can cause increased metabolism dysfunction, increased inability to burn fat, and decreased ability to lose weight and ultimately a decreased metabolism. Because of the recent popularity of foods which block iodine from the thyroid, such as soy milk, these risks are even more pronounced since people also think that soy and soy derivatives is a healthy food.

So what can you do about all this?

Basically stop drinking water from your tap and drink bottled natural mineral water instead. It’s not as expensive as you think and you can get 2 Litres for around £0.25 if you buy in pack of 6 from your local supermarket. You can also get a water filter that removes fluoride and some of the impurities that exist if you do decide to use tap water. Most normal home filters like Brita will get rid of impurities but not fluoride. You could also try supplementing with a kelp supplement or sea greens supplement that can add iodine to your diet and stimulate thyroid function.
